Advantages of 5454 Aluminium Alloy Relative to 3-piece Rim Spinning:
- High Magnesium and high Manganese Alloy
- Marine-grade material = high corrosion resistance
- Achieves its hardness and toughness during the spinning (forging) process
- No heat-treatment needed, therefore eliminating distortion
- The rims are true and round
- Ultimate tensile strength anywhere between 36KSI and 45KSI (same as 6061-T6)
- No heat-treat means there is no need to cut the rims (like 6061) to make them true
- No ‘thick-and-thin’ sections created from cutting
- No bolt breaking issues due to out-of-parallel assembly flange caused by cutting
- The rims achieve their full hardness/toughness during the spinning (forging) process
- Material hardness and toughness can be selectively placed within the rim
- Superb weld-ability
- Over 30 years, and over a million rims on the road
